UPC Faction Head Peter Walubiri Issues Election Roadmap

The self-styled Uganda Peoples Congress (UPC) faction President, Peter Walubiri who is also a renowned city lawyer has revealed that the party he leads will field a presidential candidate in the forthcoming general elections in 2021.

Walubiri who became the faction president following the death of the former Party Vice President, Joseph Bossa made the revelation while releasing the party roadmap for the 2021 elections in Kampala.

Walubiri said that the party is currently conducting a national wide registration of all its members which will end on the 30th of this month.

The group will then go for interparty nominations and elections between 3rd April to 17 July.

According to the road map, the national council meeting will be held from 28th to 29th April to elect the national leaders of the party.

The party has also set 20th to 24th of July as nomination days for those who will stand on UPC ticket in local council elections.

The candidates for parliamentary seats on UPC ticket will be nominated between 2nd  and 3rd October.

Then finally GROUP will nominate candidates for the party president on 7thand 8th of July.

It should remembered however that during the general elections in 2016, the Electoral Commission rejected all candidates that were sponsored by the said group as UPC candidates but nominated them as independent candidates.

The Electoral Commission has since recognized the administration of the Lira Municipality MP, Jimmy Akena despite several court rulings to the effect that his election to the party presidency was illegal.

Akena has since appealed to such court rulings and to date Court has not pronounced itself on the appeal.

Akena’s administration is currently occupying the party’s headquarters at Uganda House.
