MTN CEO issues a statement about MTN’s support for the fight against Coronavirus.

MTN CEO, Wim Vanhelleputte held an online press conference and issued a statement about MTN’s support for the fight against Coronavirus. He started by applauding the government for the swift response towards the Coronavirus pandemic and assured that MTN is fully committed to supporting in the cause and that they had put some offers.

For 30-days, customers can send up to Ushs 30,000/- Mobile Money every day (limited to three transactions per day) to other MTN MoMo customers free of charge. This is intended to reduce the risk of transmission through the physical sharing of money from one person to another. Using MOMO pay to pay for goods and services will stay free as it has been. In addition, MTN has included a Special data bundle to encourage people to work from home. Customers will get 1GB for Ushs 2000 valid between 9 am and 5 pm which is specifically for working hours. Working from home as a practice for social distancing will help to avoid spreading the virus.

MTN is also complementing the government’s sensitization drive by availing UGX 500 million in cash and free media channel space (radio, TV, social media, SMS, call center IVR platform) to promote the Ministry of Health’s sensitization messages.
