Jacintah Akino serves as Legal and Compliance Manager, as well as Company Secretary at the Uganda Securities Exchange (USE). With a strong background in corporate governance, law, ESG, risk and compliance, she plays a pivotal role in shaping policies and dialogues that drive equity and professionalism in Uganda’s financial markets.
Governing with Integrity and Inclusivity
In her dual role, Jacintah ensures that the USE operates with full legal compliance and ethical oversight. She has been instrumental in maintaining high standards for issuer relations, compliance frameworks, and regulatory reporting, strengthening investor confidence while advancing gender-friendly policies in the capital markets.
Driving Governance, Inclusion and Sustainability in Uganda’s Capital Markets
Jacintah is an alumnus of Makerere University, where she earned both her Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and she also holds a Master of Laws (LLM) in Corporate and Commercial Law. She has a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre, and is a proud former student of Gayaza High School, an academic journey that laid a strong foundation for her leadership in legal and regulatory affairs.
In October 2024, Jacintah played a pivotal role in World Investor Week, co-hosting the Women’s Investment Breakfast, delivering a public lecture, and moderating a panel on sustainable finance under the theme “Tech‑Enabled Financial Inclusion.” She also steered a panel at annual USE Ring the Bell for Gender Equality event, engaging UN Women and key financial institutions to spotlight women’s access to capital markets. Her leadership continues to bridge gaps in awareness, access, and participation in Uganda’s investment space, especially for youth and women.
Championing ESG and Market Transparency
In December 2024, she moderated a Uganda Securities Exchange key stakeholder meeting on ESG reporting guidelines for listed companies, where she helped guide dialogue on how listed entities can improve stakeholder engagement and long-term value creation.
Mentor, Moderator, Market Maker
Jacintah recently graduated from the ICSA Mentorship Programme, where she gained insights into personal branding, boardroom communication, and professional leadership. Reflecting on her journey, she shared:
I learnt vital lessons… stepping out of the comfort zone… and practical tools for an efficient company secretary.
