Equity Bank Anniversary: A Celebration of Trees, Youth, and Community

Equity Bank turned its anniversary into a celebration of nature and local talent this weekend with a tree planting drive at the Golf Course and Doko Cell. Leading the initiative was the Umukuka, the cultural leader of the Bagisu tribe, a respected community leader and conservationist, whose dedication to preserving the environment inspired participants of all ages.

The Bank revealed plans to plant 60,000 trees across Bugisu and Kigezi subregions over the next two years, a move aimed at creating greener communities and tackling climate challenges at the local level.

The event was also a chance for young leaders to shine. ELP Scholars from the region interacted with the Umukuka, sharing their experiences and aspirations. The Umukuka thanked Equity Bank for investing in the next generation, emphasizing the importance of youth in shaping sustainable communities.

Virginia Ssemakula, Pillar Head for Energy, Environment, and Climate Change at Equity Bank, presented a gift to the Umukuka, symbolizing the Bank’s appreciation for his leadership and commitment to conservation.

Residents who joined the event expressed excitement about the initiative. “It’s encouraging to see both our environment and our youth being nurtured at the same time,” said one local participant.

Through this anniversary celebration, Equity Bank has shown that its focus goes beyond financial services, embracing community development, environmental conservation, and youth empowerment as key pillars of its mission.
