URA Announces Final Tax Amnesty for 2025/2026

The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has rolled out its final tax amnesty for the 2025/2026 fiscal year, giving businesses and individuals a chance to clear outstanding taxes without paying penalties or interest.

The amnesty, announced by URA Commissioner General John R. Musinguzi, runs until June 30, 2026. Taxpayers who pay their full principal tax within this period will automatically receive a 100% waiver on all accumulated penalties and interest.

“This is the final window for taxpayers to get relief. Many missed the last waiver in January 2025, so we have listened and given more time. This is about helping businesses recover, rebuild, and comply voluntarily,” said Musinguzi.

Why it matters for businesses:

  • No penalties or interest – only the principal tax must be cleared.
  • Fresh start for businesses still recovering from the COVID-19 slowdown.
  • Improved cash flow– money saved from penalties can be reinvested.
  • Voluntary compliance encouraged, strengthening trust between taxpayers and government.

Business leaders have welcomed the move, calling it a timely intervention to ease financial pressure. “It gives us space to clear old dues and reinvest in our businesses,” one entrepreneur noted.

Key reminder:

  • Taxpayers must file missing returns and pay in full before June 30, 2026, to qualify.
  • After the deadline, URA will enforce full penalties and interest on all unpaid taxes.

This tax amnesty reflects the government’s broader commitment to economic recovery and fiscal responsibility. URA has also launched campaigns to inform and guide taxpayers on how to take advantage of the program.

For businesses, this is a final chance to regularize tax affairs and move forward with confidence.
