Uganda to Host International Vision Zero Africa Conference 2025

The Government of Uganda has announced that it will host the Third Bi-Annual International Vision Zero Africa Conference, scheduled to take place from 27th to 29th August 2025 at Speke Resort Munyonyo.

Speaking at a press briefing, the Minister of State for Labour, Employment and Industrial Relations, Hon. Esther Anyakun, unveiled new workplace safety and health guidelines aimed at ensuring safer, healthier, and more productive work environments.

Vision Zero is a global campaign that seeks to eliminate workplace accidents, injuries, and occupational diseases by shifting the focus from reaction to prevention. It emphasizes leadership, risk management, worker participation, and continuous improvement as key drivers of safety and well-being.

“The Government of Uganda has prioritised safety, health, and well-being as a cornerstone of national development. Our policies, programmes, and legal frameworks reflect this commitment,” Hon. Anyakun said.

This year’s conference comes at a time when Uganda has strengthened its legal framework on occupational safety. In February 2025, Parliament passed the Occupational Safety and Health Bill, 2023, expanding protections to address new workplace risks. The bill was assented to by H.E. the President in April 2025, marking a major step in safeguarding Ugandan workers.

The Vision Zero agenda is closely aligned with Africa’s Vision 2063 and Uganda’s Vision 2040, both of which place socio-economic transformation at the centre of sustainable development. By advancing safe and decent work, Uganda seeks to foster a competitive economy, protect investments, and uphold human rights.

As the conference draws near, Uganda looks forward to welcoming delegates from across Africa and beyond to share knowledge, build partnerships, and strengthen commitment to a safer, healthier, and more sustainable future for workers.
