Members of Parliament from the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) have on Monday afternoon been summoned for their party caucus at the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) in Kampala.

According to the deputy chairperson of the NRM caucus Solomon Silwanyi the caucus meeting is going to take place at the president’s office in Kampala, and that they are going to meet the party secretary General Justine Kasule Lumumba with her team from the secretariat and the NRM electoral commission chairperson DR. Tanga Odoi to brief them on the ongoing party register up date exercise.

Solomon Silwanyi also noted that in today’s caucus the party electoral commission chairperson Dr. Tanga Odoi is going to brief the members of parliament on the right date when they will be voting the new deputy chairperson of their party caucus to replace him since he was appointed as a Parliament commissioner.

“We shall be talking about the update of the party register and we shall receive a date on which we shall be replacing the Deputy Caucus Chairperson who is me since I now joined the Parliament Commission and I can’t hold both positions,” Silwanyi said.

Bulamogi County MP Kenneth Lubogo said that the meeting will help solve the contradictions and impasse that have always been noted during party elections.

He added that they are to use the caucus to call for adjustment of the election road-map for the party primaries since the National Electoral Commission recently adjusted the road-map to have nomination of MPs shifted from August to October 2020.

“NRM had already put up a time table prior to changes by the Electoral Commission, now that the Presidential and Parliamentary Elections have been shifted to another date, we then expect the party to postpone the Primaries to somewhere around August,” Lubogo said.
