The Chairperson of the Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC), Sylvia Ntambi Muwebwa has been remanded to Kigo Prisons by the Anticorruption Court over embezzlement of government funds.

On September 22, 2020, the Anti-corruption court under the Chief Magistrate, Pamela Lamunu Ocaya issued criminal summons to Ntambi after being charged in absentia and was ordered to appear before court on September 30, 2020 which she didn’t do.

Ntambi however kept on dodging court and on one occasion, she told court through her lawyers of MacDusman Kabega that she had been admitted to Medick Hospital over some ailments.

Court would learn later that the accused had presented fake medical documents to Court with the intention of dodging court an action that would amount to contempt of Court.

On appearing before the Anticorruption Court Chief Magistrate, Pamela Lamunu Ocaye, Ntambi requested to be granted bail which Court declined on grounds that the sureties she had presented were not substantial.

Ntambi had presented before Court Julius Mukunda of CSBAG and Patrick Nambi of FOWODE but these didn’t have their employment identification cards as required by Court.

Court thus remanded Ntambi to Kigo Prison until November 4 when she will be submitting a second bail application.

Ntambi is accused together with the Secretary to the Commission, Mujuni Mpitsi, the undersecretary Sunday Nicholas Olwor, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, Moses Mugabe, and Senior Accountant Harriet Byangire among others.

Prosecution alleges that between July 2018 and April 2019, Ntambi while sitting at the Equal Opportunities Commission offices in Kampala as the chairperson, neglected her duty of directing the affairs and administration of the Commission, thereby leading to gross mismanagement of the Commission Funds.
