In a major boost to its tech-driven environmental efforts, Greening Africa Initiative Limited has been selected to join the Microsoft Tech for Social Impact Program. This recognition positions Greening Africa among the global community of nonprofits leveraging cutting-edge cloud and AI technologies to accelerate social change.

The Microsoft Tech for Social Impact Program provides nonprofit organizations with access to technology grants, software discounts, cloud services, and AI-powered tools—all designed to strengthen mission impact, enhance operations, and improve transparency.

For Greening Africa, this milestone couldn’t have come at a better time.

“We are incredibly grateful to Microsoft for this opportunity. As we begin leveraging AI to develop tools that map and monitor our tree-planting efforts—including the Tiny Forests—we now have the right technology partner to back our vision,” said Dickson Mushabe, Founder of Greening Africa.

The partnership will enable Greening Africa to use tools like Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, Power BI, and Dynamics 365 to improve internal efficiency, analyze impact data, and strengthen outreach to partners, donors, and volunteers. With secure cloud infrastructure and real-time dashboards, the organization will be able to better track the growth and success of its nationwide greening efforts.

Already known for its bold campaign to green Ugandan cities—beginning with over 50,000 trees planted in Hoima in partnership with Absa Bank, and more recently a commitment to 1 million trees by 2027 in partnership with Housing Finance Bank—Greening Africa is now taking bold steps into climate-tech innovation.

As part of its strategic roadmap, Greening Africa plans to plant 30,000 tiny forests by 2030—mini but dense forests that revitalize biodiversity in urban spaces and support SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities).

The Tech for Social Impact Program will also support Greening Africa’s capacity building, offering training to team members and volunteers on AI tools, cybersecurity, and digital reporting platforms.

This marks a powerful convergence of technology and environmental activism—showing what’s possible when purpose meets innovation.
