The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has bid farewell to Ms. Sarah Chelangat, the outgoing Commissioner for Domestic Taxes, who has been appointed Partner at Ernst & Young (EY).

During her tenure of nearly four years, Chelangat played a central role in mobilizing domestic revenue to support Uganda’s development agenda and the country’s march towards self-reliance.

URA Commissioner General, John R. Musinguzi, praised her service and dedication.

Congratulations to our outgoing Commissioner for Domestic Taxes, on your appointment as Partner at EY. For nearly four years, you have served Uganda with distinction, mobilizing revenue that fuels our nation’s growth and journey to self-reliance. As you step into this new role, we are confident your expertise will continue to promote compliance, good governance, and economic progress.

Musinguzi also offered her a blessing from the book of Numbers 6:24–26: “The Lord bless you and keep you… the Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace.”

In her farewell message, Chelangat reflected on her time at the Authority with humility and gratitude. “As I conclude my journey at URA, I am filled with immense gratitude. Nearly four years of serving URA have been a journey of learning, growth, and purpose. Every day here was about more than revenue; it was about people, teamwork, and building a meaningful legacy for Uganda,” she said.

Her leadership saw URA make significant strides in broadening the tax base, promoting compliance, and digitizing processes to ease service delivery for taxpayers. She has also been credited with strengthening collaboration between URA and the private sector.

As she moves into her new role at EY, one of the world’s largest professional services firms, Chelangat carries with her a wealth of experience in taxation, governance, and policy implementation. Stakeholders believe her appointment further underscores Uganda’s growing reputation for producing leaders of global influence.

The URA family wished her success as she embarks on this new chapter of her professional journey.
