Cerinah Z. Tugume: Reimagining the Bridal Beauty Experience in Uganda

Cerinah Z. Tugume, the visionary CEO & Founder of Serene Beauty, leads a thriving bridal hair, makeup, and wellness studio in Kampala.

What began as a side project has blossomed into a multi-million UGX venture serving brides with holistic beauty—from hair and makeup to full-body massage and accommodation—while empowering women through employment and confidence-building.

With a calm demeanor and sharp business instincts, Cerinah has carved a niche in Uganda’s competitive beauty industry. Her secret? Delivering an unmatched experience that brings together luxury, convenience, and emotion on a bride’s most important day.

From Side Hustle to Signature Brand
Cerinah’s journey into the beauty world started quietly while still in formal employment. She held impactful corporate roles at companies like Vivo Energy, Rift Valley Railways, and Hima Cement, where she led projects in communications, social investment, and stakeholder engagement.

But it was on weekends styling brides and doing makeup that she truly came alive. That passion, nurtured over time, slowly transformed from a hobby into a business model. In 2016, she registered Serene Beauty, and by 2019, she made the bold leap—resigning from her corporate job to focus on her business full-time.

A Bridal Experience, Not Just Beauty
Serene Beauty is not just another beauty studio. Cerinah designed it to be a full-service bridal experiencea peaceful sanctuary where a bride gets everything she needs under one roof:

Professional hair & makeup styling
Spa-grade massage & pampering
Bridal accommodation and breakfast
A calm and supportive environment

“It’s not just about the face beat,” she says. “It’s about making her feel at peace, beautiful, and celebrated.”

This one-stop approach has made Serene Beauty a top recommendation among wedding vendors and event planners in Uganda.

Empowering Women in Beauty
Beyond business, Cerinah has built a close-knit team of women—many of whom she’s trained from scratch. Her mission is not just to style brides but also to empower women economically and emotionally.

She mentors young beauticians, invests in their growth, and provides a workplace culture that values dignity and discipline.
Her studio has created opportunities for dozens of young women in beauty therapy, administration, customer service, and hospitality—many of whom have gone on to lead or start businesses of their own.

Recognized and Respected
Cerinah’s story has been profiled by some of Uganda’s most credible platforms:

The Pearl Magazine, for redefining bridal beauty
Daily Monitor Prosper Section, for entrepreneurship excellence
British Council Uganda, where she facilitated a masterclass in beauty business
Women of Steel Series, where her resilience and passion were spotlighted

Her calm leadership style and clear brand philosophy have made her a role model among both brides and fellow entrepreneurs.

Looking Ahead
Cerinah’s goal is to expand Serene Beauty beyond Kampala, and eventually establish a regional presence. She’s also working on building partnerships in wellness and bridal consultancy positioning Serene Beauty as not just a salon, but a lifestyle experience.
